Online Book of Condolence for Pope Francis

As the faithful around the world mourn the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception invites you to share your prayers, comments, and memories in our Online Book of Condolence. A Pope of the people, Pope Francis inspired millions with his humility, compassion, and tireless devotion. As the first Pontiff from the Americas, he brought fresh insight to the papacy, rooted in mercy, justice, and the embrace of the marginalized.

In tribute to his extraordinary life and ministry, Monsignor Walter Rossi, Rector of the Basilica, shared: โ€œWe give thanks to God for his 55 years as a priest, his 32 years as a bishop, and 12 years as Pope. A life of service to the Church and to Godโ€™s people, we remember him and strive to โ€˜go out to proclaim the merciful embrace of the Father’ as he urged in his 2015 homily at the Basilica. May he rest in peace and Our Lady usher him into the presence of her Son.โ€

Pope Francis, holy Pope, was the epitome of Christ-like mindedness with the same Christ-like example. Thank our loving God for sending this holy man to be a Christ-like example for ALL people, God's children, without exception. It is my prayer, that ALL people, without exception, will put into action, Pope Francis' example, his thoughts, words and actions. God bless him forever.

My Pope, your life was a rare gift of Humility and Humanity; dignity to the world. You embraced life with a childlike wonder, loving wholeheartedly and sowing seeds of kindness everywhere at any opportunity. The seemingly void your transition to Eternity created shall be filled with reflection and refraction of your savoring hugs and kisses to entire Humanity. You had a smile that lights up the darkest sky and warms up the coldest hearts. These Jesuit Charisma you, "Francis" too will miss!

Most Fraternity, Sorority and Confraternity recognized and appreciated your very unique personality. You held His Eternal Hands when you heard Him Call, kept your focus and fixed your gaze; left it all as a Legacy. Well, "God has promised Strengths for the day, Light for the way, Grace for the trials, help from Above, Unfailing sympathy and Undying Love but most importantly, Rest for the Laborer . . . I pray that my ethereal journey shall be punctuated with a few of your Attributes. Rest in God's Eternal Mercy and Bliss. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ . ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ . ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Light a Candle for the Repose of the Soul of Pope Francis

As we mourn the passing of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis, we invite you to honor his life, legacy and unwavering devotion to Christ by lighting a candle at Maryโ€™s Shrine. Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis led the faithful with a heart of compassion, welcoming the marginalized and underprivileged with open arms. Your candle, lit in prayerful remembrance, will burn alongside hundreds of others in chapels and oratories throughout the upper and lower Church of the National Shrine.
